Shrink Rap Blog Hijacked by Grand Rounds Manic Roy

Roy keeps moving the Grand Rounds notice to the top of the blog. We're posting new posts, honest, just scroll down and somehow you'll find the new ones....
Oy.

[From Clink] I have a new post today (Friday), just keep scrolling down. Sorry about this. Things will get back to normal (HA!!!) after Grand Rounds.

Cool! I didn't know we could post a year in advance.

We can. I was waiting for you to chew me out for diagnosing you without a full interview and mental status exam. Are you hearing any voices now? Any decreased need for sleep? Any thoughts that you're king of the bloggers? Any impulsive blogging? And why are we both up at 12:30?

oh-kay... that's 2 manic shrinks... do I hear a third?

But, seriously, Maybe TLP had access to his fMRI:
[from APA] MIT's Technology Review (4/24, Brandt) reported, "Psychiatrists and neuroscientists are making extraordinary advances in understanding the psychopathic or sociopathic mind." Through the use of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), "researchers in the United States, Germany, and elsewhere have started taking scans of the brains of psychopaths while the patients view horrific images." The Review continued, "When normal people view these images, fMRI scans light up to indicate heavy brain activity in sections of the emotion-generating limbic system, primarily the amygdala." However, in psychopathic patients, "these sections of the amygdala remain dark, showing greatly reduced activity or none at all. This phenomenon, known as limbic underactivation, may indicate that some of these people lack the ability to generate the basic emotions that keep primitive killer instincts in check." Still other researchers "see similar deficits from fMRI scans of the frontal cortex" and say "that frontal-deficit syndrome creates a psychopathic inability to rein in overly emotional, impulsive, and violent reactions to the slightest provocation." However, "some scientists say that this focus on the amygdala is too simplistic" and emphasize that "not all killers are psychopaths."

But are all psychopaths killers?

He's not a problem if he's up at 12:30 (says me, w/no med degree lol). I'm STILL up at 4 am, and still haven't gone to bed . . . .

Now THAT'S a problem . . . .

hee hee.

The third non-manic blogger went to bed at a decent time and is now up sending out receipts (thank-you's?) for all our Grand Rounds submissions.

Before fMRI's they were measuring electrical skin resistance of psychopaths to compare autonomic responsivity to non-psychopaths. (They're less responsive.)

But at least the psychopaths aren't up at 1:00 am arguing about hijacked blogs. Have some chocolate, go to sleep.

Hey Clink, didja know chocolate might not have cocoa butter in it anymore if a proposal submitted to the FDA goes through?

What's chocolate w/out cocoa butter . . . I like candy w/ what some call "mockolate" on it just as much as the next person, but I want the word chocolate on something to actually MEAN something.

Anyhoo. They did just extend the comment period on that proposal so go communicate against it. Lol.

We must have our chocolate, and eat it too (if it's chocolate cake, then we CAN have our cake and eat it too!)

Sorry, been up all night, just tried to sleep for an hour and couldn't stop my brain. I guess the brakes are out . . . .

Oy Roy.....

Only a shrink (or two) could come up with something that devious!

As Adam Savage would say, "I wouldn't say he's an evil genius . . . ." in a tone that actually implies he is . . . .

bwa ha ha ha ha! (I get crazy when people tamper with my chocolate . . . . . step away from the chocolate, and no one gets hurt!!!)

12:30am is a decent hour for sleep! My bedtime is around then on a nightly basis. :) Though the other night, I do believe I was out riding a motorcycle at that hour. It's amazing the changes the last 2 weeks have brought. There's a word for it: happiness! :)

Looking forward to reading your Grand Rounds. Good luck putting it all together.

Take care,
Carrie :)

okay, okay, I give. I'll fix the dates and set it all right. (I'll just use my Delorean and my flux capacitor to go back and fix it.)

Yes, you are a g33k.

Dunno if anyone was g33ky enough to get my reference in Clink's metal detector post comments, though.
