Added to the onslaught of prior authorization requests that occurred after 1/1/2013 this change in coding/documentation may just be enough to facilitate my early demise. The APA is a pathetic organization for allowing this to happen. Having said that (thanks for letting me "vent my spleen" I appreciate this analysis. By the way, to bill for a 90833 you need to document 16 minutes of psychotherapy (I usually say 20 minutes just because it's a nice round number). 38 minutes is needed for a 90836 (I usually say 40 minutes). Thanks. I blogged about your psychoanalysis post, also -- just linked to it, I didn't steal it verbatim. I'm not sure that if the patient is not on medicines you can use an E/M code, you may have to use the other psychotherapy codes.Dinahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09227988351623862689noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26666124.post-62000270901539368732012-11-26T21:29:33.393-05:002012-11-26T21:29:33.393-05:00It does not appear that Face-to-Face time excludes...It does not appear that Face-to-Face time excludes the time the clinician spends looking at his computer during the session...which could be most of the appointment.

This is totally numbing. jessehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11077223398907532291noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26666124.post-15707085428325481512012-11-25T23:40:17.146-05:002012-11-25T23:40:17.146-05:00If you check the post immediately before the one y...If you check the post immediately before the one you posted, you can see how to use the new psychotherapy codes.
It's basically:
90833- for 30 minute sessions
90836- for 45 minute sessions
90838- for 60 minute sessions
With some conditions about face-to-face time.

And then you would just code as, e.g.:

CPT: 90836, 99213Psychpracticehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04066923364269302930noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26666124.post-37134280742550387372012-11-25T23:34:09.434-05:002012-11-25T23:34:09.434-05:00Yikes.
